Transmission Reconditioning Reminders

^ Always measure counter shaft end play

^ Replace all worn or failed components.

^ Thoroughly clean all components.

^ Index mark synchronizer hubs and sleeve before disassembly to ensure smooth synchronizer operation after reassembling.

^ Apply a thin bead of RTV (1/8 inch wide) only in the areas indicated in the Service Manual. Do not use RTV in areas that require seals or gaskets.

^ Torque all transmission bolts to the specifications listed in the Service Manual.

^ Lubricate the clutch splines, pilot bearing, and clutch release bearing pivot as outlined in the Service Manual.

^ Thoroughly clean the clutch housing and engine block mounting faces. They must be free of all dirt, oil, and corrosion.

^ On vehicles equipped with transmission to engine struts, torque the strut to transmission bolts first, then torque the strut to engine bolts.
