SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The vehicle's speedometer reading fluctuates and/or the speed control is inoperative or disengages intermittently. This may be caused by spread female terminals at the 2-way distance sensor connector.
DIAGNOSIS:
Inspect the 2-way distance sensor connector for terminal push outs or damage to the connector, such as broken terminals or locking fingers. If no other problems are found, insert the male pin terminal gauge (4368163 from package 4419586) into the female terminals of the 2-way wiring harness connector. The male terminal gauge should mate snugly. If the male terminal gauge is loose, replace the wiring harness 2-way connector using the following repair procedure. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CLOSE DOWN THE FEMALE TERMINAL.
PARTS REQUIRED:
1 Wiring Connector Assembly Package 4419586
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Cut the leads to the damaged 2-way connector at staggered lengths and place a piece of heat shrink tubing on each wire.
2. Cut the matching wires on the new 2-way connector to staggered lengths (allowing extra length for solder connections) so that the length of the new wiring is the same as the original wiring.
3. Strip one half inch of insulation from each wire and twist each pair of matching wires together. Solder each joint using a ROSIN CORE SOLDER. Center the heat shrink tubing over the joint and heat using a heat gun. Heat the joint until the tubing is tightly sealed and sealant comes out of both ends of the tube.
4. Install the wiring in its original routing and reconnect the distance sensor.
