A new service procedure and torque specification has been developed for the rear carrier pinion nut to prevent torque loss (Figure 1). When performing any rear carrier servicing operation that requires the removal of the pinion nut, the following revised procedure must be used when installing the pinion nut.


REVISED SERVICE PROCEDURE:

1. Thoroughly clean the pinion nut and pinion shaft threads with a non-oily solvent, such as Mopar Brake And Carburetor Parts Cleaner PN 4318037.

2. Apply Mopar Lock and Seal Adhesive PN 4318031 to both the pinion nut and pinion shaft threads.

3. Install pinion nut and tighten to > > 380 N-m (280 ft.lbs.) < < torque.

4. Wipe off all excess adhesive.
