Ignition Switch: Service and Repair

Ignition switch may be replaced without removing steering lock.
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. On Colt and Summit models, remove knee protector, then the upper and lower column covers.
3. On Colt Vista models, remove upper and lower column covers.
4. On Colt Wagon and Conquest models, remove lower column cover.
5. On all models, remove band securing electrical connector, then disconnect electrical connector.
6. On 1991-92 Colt and Summit with automatic transmission, remove interlock cable cover, then disconnect interlock cable, spring and slide lever.
7. On all models, remove screws attaching ignition switch to ignition lock, then the switch from lock assembly.
8. Reverse procedure to install.
