Nippondenso starters are either direct drive or gear reduction types. The direct drive starter has an overrunning clutch type starter drive and a solenoid switch is mounted on the starter motor. The structure of the gear reduction type starter differs from that of the direct drive type, but the electrical wiring is the same for both types.
