Clutch Pedal Cuts Carpet
MODELS:
1994 - 1996 (BR) Ram Truck
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Carpeting may be cut due to the corner of the clutch pedal contacting the carpet when depressed.
DIAGNOSIS:
Depress the clutch pedal and inspect the point where the clutch pedal contacts the carpet for signs of carpet damage. Perform the following repair if the clutch pedal arm contacting the carpet is causing damage to the carpet.
PARTS REQUIRED:
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This bulletin involves adding a radius to the clutch pedal arm.
1. Remove retaining ring, flat washer, and wave washer that secure brake and clutch pedals to push rods (Figure 1).
2. Remove knee bolster for access to pivot shaft.
3. Remove brake light switch. Rotate switch clockwise about 300 to release it, then remove switch from bracket.
4. Remove retainer from passenger side of pedal pivot shaft (Figure 2).
5. Push pedal pivot shaft toward driver side of support only enough to remove clutch pedal. It is not necessary to remove shaft from pedal support entirely.
6. Remove clutch pedal.
7. Using a grinder, grind a 10mm radius into the corner of the clutch pedal (Figure 3).
8. Paint any exposed metal on the clutch pedal to prevent corrosion.
9. Using the procedures outlined in the appropriate Service Manual, remove the seat.
10. Remove door sill and cowl trim covers.
11. Remove bolts holding lower seat belt anchors to floor. Remove rear seat belt buckles if the vehicle is a Club Cab.
12. Remove floor shift boot (if equipped).
13. Remove rear closure panel trim on regular cab models or rear quarter trim panels on Club Cab models.
14. Fold carpet or mat toward center of cab and remove through door opening.
15. Install new carpet.
16. Install rear closure panel trim on regular cab models or rear quarter trim panels on Club Cab models.
17. Install floor shift boot (if equipped).
18. Install bolts holding lower seat belt anchors to floor. Tighten bolts to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.) of torque. On Club Cab models, install rear seat belt buckles and tighten the retaining nuts to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.) of torque.
19. Install door sill and cowl trim covers.
20. Install the seat (refer to appropriate Service Manual for proper installation).
21. Lubricate pedal shaft, pedal shaft bore and all bushings (Figure 4) with Mopar Multi Mileage (P/N 4318063) or high temperature bearing grease (P/N 4318064).
22. Position clutch pedal in support. Align pedal with pivot shaft and slide shaft through pedal bushings, then repeat process for brake pedal.
23. Slide pedal shaft through support and install shaft retainer.
24. Secure push rods to clutch and brake pedals.
25. Install brake light switch in bracket. Rotate switch into place to lock bracket.
26. Install knee bolster.
