Trans Overdrive Solenoid Circuit

NAME OF CODE
Trans Overdrive Solenoid Circuit

WHEN MONITORED
With the ignition key ON.

SET CONDITION
The overdrive solenoid control circuit is not in the expected state when requested to operate by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) (i.e. does not respond).

THEORY OF OPERATION
The overdrive solenoid is actuated by the PCM when the engine is at normal operating temperature, and vehicle speed is attained to shift into overdrive. The PCM looks for a state change when actuating the solenoid. If the state change does not occur, the code will set. The requirements are operating temperature, vehicle speed, and a new input of trans temperature on some applications. If the trans temperature is in excess, overdrive will be disallowed with no trouble code.

POSSIBLE CAUSES
- Open or shorted control circuit
- Open fused ignition switch output circuit
- Open or shorted solenoid control coil
- Powertrain control module failure
