Test 1A - Checking the System For Diagnostic Trouble Codes

CAUTION: Before performing any road test, verify that full braking capability is present.

1. Your diagnostic test procedure must begin with a thorough visual inspection of the ABS components for damaged components or disconnected connectors.
2. Connect the Diagnostic Readout Box (DRB), or equivalent scan tool to the data link connector.
3. With the scan tool, read Kelsey-Hayes ABS active and stored trouble codes and record them.
^ If you encounter a "NO RESPONSE" message on the scan tool while accessing the Kelsey-Hayes ABS diagnostic menu, perform TEST 35A. Test 35A - Controller/Vehicle Mismatch (Code 70)
^ For other scan tool related communication problems, perform the vehicle communications diagnostic checks.
^ If a wheel speed sensor code was present, perform the diagnostic test for that code. Using the scan tool, either reset the module to erase all stored trouble codes or use the erase command after reading all trouble codes.

4. With the scan tool, actuate the "ZERO SPEED TEST".
^ If the zero speed test fails, read the active diagnostic trouble codes. If the trouble code doesn't come back, refer to the trouble code description.
^ If the scan tool displays trouble codes, proceed to the appropriate diagnostic test(s). If the Zero Speed Test passes and if no trouble codes are present at the time, perform the verification test. Verification Test VER-1A - ABS
