Vehicle Damage Warnings
WARNING: The fasteners, screws and bolts used for airbag components have special coatings and are specifically designed for the airbag system. They must not be replaced with substitutes. If fastener replacement is required, use the correct fasteners provided in the service package.NOTE: Service and general information labels about the air bag system can be found on the driver's sun visor, the glove box door, and in the engine compartment.
CAUTION: Before disconnecting any control module connector, make sure the ignition is "OFF" and the battery is disconnected. Failure to do so could damage the module.
When Testing Voltage Or Continuity at Air Bag Control Module (ACM)
Use care when performing electrical tests so as to prevent accidental shorting of terminals.
- Such mistakes can damage fuses or components. Also, a second code could be set, making diagnosis of the original problem more difficult.
Do not probe connectors with an ohmmeter unless specifically instructed to do so.
- Ohmmeters are self-powered and could cause unexpected deployment of the air bag if used improperly.
When testing voltage or continuity at any control module, use the terminal side (not the wire end) of the connector unless instructed to do so.
Do not probe a wire through the insulation; this will damage it and eventually cause it to fail due to corrosion.
