Drivers Side Airbag -- '95- '96 XJ Only

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable and isolate.

2. Wait two minutes for the energy reserve capacitor to discharge before proceeding.

Disarming:

3. Place the steering wheel in the straight ahead driving position (road wheels straight).

4. Remove the plastic cap on top of the steering wheel back cover using a small screwdriver.

5. Unscrew the arming screw using an 8 mm socket. The screw will retract until it is approximately one inch above the top surface of the back cover (after which the screw will just turn).

Removing the arming screw from the steering wheel assembly:

6. Remove the driver airbag module from the steering wheel by removing the four attachment nuts located behind the steering wheel using a 10 mm socket.

7. Remove the steering wheel from the steering column (refer to service manual if necessary).

8. Disassemble the steering wheel back cover from the steering wheel by removing the four attachment screws using a cross recess screwdriver.

9. Remove the plastic nutblocker from the steering wheel by unsnapping it from the arming screw.

10. Remove the arming screw from the steering wheel by backing it out from the nut.

11. Reassemble the steering wheel back cover and attach steering wheel to steering column. Attach driver airbag to steering wheel and replace arming screw cap to steering wheel.

12. Connect negative battery cable.

13. Install double sided "DRIVER AIRBAG DEACTIVATED" label on inside surface of driver door window within 2" of lower rear corner.

14. Install the small yellow "DRIVER AIRBAG DEACTIVATED" label on lower half of driver side B-pillar.

15. Install "WARNING: DRIVER AIRBAG DEACTIVATED..." label onto face of owners manual.

Note:
Discard any unused extra labels supplied in package.

16. Reactivate by reversing the above procedure.
