Clicking Noise From Speedometer

NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES BUILT PRIOR TO DECEMBER 15, 1995 (MDH 12-15-XX).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Customers may complain of a constant clicking/ticking noise coming from the instrument cluster area while driving the vehicle.
DIAGNOSIS:
Drive the vehicle. If a clicking/ticking noise is heard from the instrument cluster area while driving the vehicle and is eliminated when the vehicle comes to a stop, perform the following Repair Procedure.

NOTE:
SPEEDOMETERS MUST BE ORDERED USING DIAL FUNCTION 11.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Record the radio station presets.
2. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
3. Remove the speedometer from the instrument cluster. Refer to the 1996 Ram Truck Service Manual (Publication No. 81-370-6108), pages 8E-18 through 8E-21 for information regarding instrument cluster and speedometer Removal and Installation procedures.
4. Install revised speedometer into instrument cluster. Refer to the 1996 Ram Truck Service Manual (Publication No. 81-370-6108), pages 8E-21 for information regarding instrument cluster and speedometer Removal and Installation procedures.
5. Reconnect the battery negative cable.
6. Reset the clock and the radio station presets to the values that were recorded in step 1.
