Lower Ball Joint - Replacement

NO: 02-04-96

GROUP: Front Suspension

DATE: June 21, 1996

SUBJECT:
Lower Ball Joint Replacement

MODELS:
1994-1996 (BR) Ram Pickup

NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO TWO WHEEL DRIVE (2WD) VEHICLES.

DISCUSSION:

Some BR 2WD trucks may have lower ball joints that are tack welded to the lower control arms. On these vehicles, if lower ball joint replacement is required, the lower control arm must be replaced. Until recently, lower ball joints for BR trucks were serviced only as a part of the lower control arm assemblies.

For BR 2WD trucks that do not have tack welded lower ball joints, Mopar now services the lower ball joints separately. The 1994 - 1996 Ram Truck Service Manuals include procedures for lower control arm ball joint replacement for non-tack welded lower control arm ball joints.

All BR 2WD trucks have replaceable upper control arm ball joints. The 1994 - 1996 Ram Truck Service Manuals include procedures for upper control arm ball joint replacement.

NOTE:
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REPLACE TACK WELDED LOWER CONTROL ARM BALL JOINTS. VEHICLES WITH TACK WELDED LOWER CONTROL ARM BALL JOINTS REQUIRE LOWER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT.
