Accessory Drive System - Moaning Noise

Moaning Noise Coming From The Accessory Drive

MODELS:
1994 - 97 (BR) Ram Truck

NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO RAM TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH AN 8.0L (V-10) ENGINE AND AIR CONDITIONING BUILT BEFORE MARCH 30, 1997 (MDH 0330XX).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

Moaning noise coming from the accessory drive system when the engine is running at an engine speed of approximately 2400 rpm.

DIAGNOSIS:

Start the engine and raise the engine speed to 2200 - 2600 rpm. If a moaning noise is coming from the accessory drive system, perform the following Repair Procedure. Further diagnosis will be required if a moaning noise occurs at engine speeds above or below the 2200 - 2600 engine rpm range.

PARTS REQUIRED:

1 53010013AB Brace, Generator

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

This bulletin involves replacing the generator brace with a revised part.

1. Remove the two bolts that secure the generator brace to the generator and intake manifold.

2. Remove the generator brace and discard the brace.

3. Remove the two right side (passenger side) air conditioning compressor bolts.

4. Install the revised generator brace, p/n 53010013AB, onto the generator, intake manifold, and air conditioning compressor. Install the four attaching bolts and tighten the bolts to 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs).

NOTE:
MAKE SURE THE GENERATOR GROUND STRAP IS PROPERLY SECURED TO THE GENERATOR BRACE ATTACHING BOLT.
