Oil Or Coolant Seepage At The Timing Chain Cover Gasket

NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH AN 8.0L ENGINE, BUILT PRIOR TO April 18, 1995 (MDH 04-18-XX).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Oil or coolant seepage may be present at the timing chain cover gasket.
DIAGNOSIS:
Inspect the timing chain cover area. If seepage is present, perform the Repair Procedure. Use of a black light leak detector may be useful for verification.
PARTS REQUIRED:
1 53020956 Gasket
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This bulletin involves replacing the timing chain cover gasket with an improved gasket.
1. Using the procedures outlined on page 9-126 of the 1995 Ram Truck Service Manual, publication number 81-370-5108, remove the timing chain cover.
2. Remove all gasket material from the block and cover and clean the mating surfaces.
3. Inspect the crankshaft front oil seal for any signs of damage and replace it if necessary.
4. Install the timing chain cover using the new gasket, P/N 53020956. Do not use any gasket sealers or coatings. The gasket must be installed dry.
