CUSTOMER SATISFACTION NOTIFICATIONTO PREVENT TRANSMISSION FAILURE WHEN PLOWING SNOW
Dear Dodge Ram or Dakota Truck Owner:
The satisfaction of our customers is very important to Chrysler. Because of this, we are requesting owners of some 1994 through 1996 Dodge Ram and Dakota 4x4 trucks equipped with an automatic transmission and snow plow prep package, to return them to their dealer for a special service.
The problem is...
Service is required in order to prevent the loss of reverse gear on your Ram or Dakota (identified on the enclosed form), due to premature reverse band wear. Repeated shifting into and out of reverse, such as when plowing snow, causes excessive reverse band wear and may lead to transmission failure (no reverse gear).
What Chrysler and your dealer will do...
Chrysler will repair your Ram or Dakota free of charge (parts and labor). To do this, your dealer will remove the check ball from the reverse band servo and replace a transmission separator plate to more firmly apply the reverse band. The work will take about 2 hours to complete. However, additional time may be necessary depending on how dealer appointments are scheduled and processed. After this service is performed, you may notice a more firm engagement when shifting the transmission into reverse.
What you must do...
^ Simply contact your dealer to schedule a service appointment. Ask the dealer to hold the parts for your vehicle or to order them before your appointment.
^ Bring the enclosed Owner Notification Form with you to your dealer. It explains the required service to your dealer.
