Verification Test VER-1A - Transmission Control System



1. Leave the DRB connected to the Data Link Connector (DLC)
- Reconnect any disconnected components.
- With the DRB, perform a quick battery disconnect.
- With the DRB, erase all trouble codes.
- With the DRB, display transmission temperature.
- Start and run the engine until the transmission temperature is HOT (above 110°F).
- Check for, and erase, PCM DTC $89 (Decimal 144) as this DTC will cause the MIL to stay on.

2. Check the transaxle fluid. Adjust if necessary.

3. If the Transmission Control Module, torque converter, or transaxle has been replaced:
- With the DRB, perform quick learn procedure. Ensure that vehicle has proper pinion factor.

4. Road test the vehicle.
- With the DRB, monitor engine RPM.
- Make 15 to 20 1-2, 2-3, and 3-4 upshifts. Perform these shifts from a standing start to 45 MPH with a constant throttle opening of 20 to 25 degrees.
- Below 25 MPH, make 5 to 8 wide open throttle kick-downs to 1st gear. Allow at least 5 seconds each in 2nd and 3rd between each kickdown.
- If the vehicle is equipped with AutoStick, place the shift lever in the AutoStick position and perform a complete upshift and downshift sequence.

5. Check for trouble codes and one-trip failures set during the road test.
- If a trouble code sets during the test, perform TEST 2.
- If no trouble codes set during the test, but transaxle performance is unacceptable, perform TEST 7.
- If no trouble codes were set and the transaxle performance is acceptable, return the vehicle to the customer.
