Note:
This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with the 41TE or 42LE transaxle. also, the reference section contains information that can be used for quick reference.

The software calibration used in the 1995 model year 41TE and 42LE TCM is being made available for all vehicles dating back to 1989 MY. Several shift quality improvements, as well as default issues, are included.

If the transaxle fluid shows signs of distress (yellowish brown or has a burnt odor), proceed with Repair Procedure No. 1.

If no codes are present and all systems are functioning correctly, and the transaxle fluid is the normal red color, proceed with Repair Procedure No. 2.

Vehicles With Flashable Transaxle Control Modules

PRODUCTION VEHICLES THAT MAY NOT HAVE FLASH CONTROLLERS

1989 - 1992 All with 3.0L Engine
1990 - 1992 All with 3.3L and 3.8L Engine
1993 AA, AC, AS, & AY with 41TE Transaxle

Some vehicles that have had service controllers installed can be flashed. Therefore, ALWAYS CHECK THE PART NUMBER TO BE SURE THAT A FLASHABLE TCM IS NOT REPLACED.
