Component Tests and General Diagnostics

GENERAL INSPECTION
A visual inspection consists of physically looking for possible cause of a malfunction. A careful and thorough visual inspection of components may quickly identify malfunction cause and eliminate need for diagnostic testing. If a malfunction is not resolved by visual inspection, proceed with diagnostic testing.
1. On all models, turn ignition switch to On.
2. If air bag warning lamp does not light, proceed with diagnostic testing.
3. If air bag warning lamp fails to go out after ten seconds, proceed with diagnostic testing.
4. Check air bag control module (ACM) case and brackets for dents, cracks or deformities.
5. Check ACM connectors and lock levers for damage and terminals for deformities.
6. Remove air bag module as outlined under Component Service.
7. Never attempt to measure circuit resistance of air bag module even with a specified tester.
8. Check air bag pad cover for dents, cracks or deformities.
9. Check air bag module for dents, cracks or deformities.
10. Check hooks and connectors for damage, terminals for deformities and harness for binds.
