Visual Inspection


NOTE: A thorough visual inspection can save unnecessary diagnostic time.

Inspect the Following
Wires and Hoses - Check routing and condition.
Replace or repair any that are loose, disconnected, or misrouted. See ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS and VACUUM HOSES below.

Battery Connections - Ensure they are clean and tight.

Generator Wiring And Belt - Verify that they are correctly installed and tightened.

Engine Ground Strap - Verify connections are clean and tight.

Ignition Cables - Check routing and condition.

60-Way PCM Electrical Connection - Check for damaged or spread terminals. Verify connector is fully inserted into the PCM socket. Ensure that wires are not stretched or pulled out of the connector.

Engine Harness To Main Harness Connections - Verify that they are fully inserted.

Relays - Verify all electrical connectors are fully inserted into relays.

Fuel Pump Hose and Wiring Connections - Ensure connector is making contact with terminals on pump. Check hose connections and condition.

Electrical Connections - Check harness routing, condition and connections.

- Coolant Temperature Sensor.
- Distributor
- Oil Pressure Switch
- Ignition Coil
- Canister Purge Solenoid
- MAP Sensor
- Throttle Body Wiring To Main Harness
- Idle Air Control (IAC) Motor
- Throttle Position Sensor
- Fuel Injector
- Neutral Safety Switch (Auto Trans Only)
- Torque Convertor Lockup Solenoid (Auto Trans Only)

Vacuum Hoses - Check routing, connections, and condition of the following vacuum circuits;
- MAP Sensor
- Canister Purge Solenoid
- Vapor Canister
- PCV System
- Throttle Body Nipples
- Heated Air Door
- Power Brake And Speed Control

NOTE: Refer to the vacuum schematic on the Vehicle Emission Control Information (VECI) label under the hood.



NOTE: If no problems are found during the visual inspection, SEE FLOW OF DIAGNOSIS.
