Transaxle Refinements

INPUT CLUTCH HUB
A dirt collection groove was added under the input clutch hub lip seal groove to enhance durability.

Also, the underdrive clutch feed orifice in the input clutch hub was reduced in size to minimize the UD clutch cavity transient pressure loss. The change was to enhance shift quality and occurs for the 1995 model year. The part number is 4531637.

OVERDRIVE/REVERSE PISTON
For the 1995 model year the bottom of the OD/Rev piston slots where the OD/Rev pressure plate fits has a "D" shaped cutout. This was done to allow better oil flow and reduce powdery debris build - up that could affect lip seal function.

OD/REV CLUTCH PRESSURE PLATE
The OD/Rev clutch pressure plate material was changed for the 1995 model year to enhance durability. The pressure plate can be identified by a dimple in one of the drive hubs. Current part number is 4531556.

UNDERDRIVE CLUTCH HUB AND SHAFT ASSEMBLY
The underdrive hub and shaft assembly has an added step to eliminate burrs generated by the face grinding process. The change occurs for the 1995 model year. There is also added clearance for a redesigned spring pack. The new spring pack was introduced in the 1996 model year.

2-4 CLUTCH PISTON RETAINER
A lance bleed orifice was added to the 2-4 piston retainer to enhance shift quality for the 1995 model year. Part number is 4431650.

PISTON LIP SEAL
The underdrive clutch piston inner lip-seal material was changed for the 1995 model year. The new services the old.

For the 1995 model year there is a revised low/reverse piston lip seal. The lip seal is a newly designed "D" shaped ring type to improve installation during production. The new seals service the old.
- Low/Reverse Piston Outer Seal - Old P/N = 4412258, New P/N = 4659185
- Low/Reverse Piston Inner Seal - Old P/N = 4412257, New P/N 4659184

DIFFERENTIAL CASE AND SIDE GEARS
The differential side gears and the differential case for the 41TE are modified to accept cir-clips on the axle shafts for the 1995 model year. This was done to improve axle shaft retention and overall quality.

The inside diameter of the oil dams in the differential bearing retainer and extension housings have been increased to accommodate the axle shafts with the cir-clips. The change begins with production for the 1995 model year. Part numbers are as follows:

DIFFERENTIAL OIL DAMS
- Oil Dam (left) = 4567493 (new), 4269787 (old)
- Oil Dam (right) - 4567494 (new), 5222255 (old)

The differential bearing retainer seal for some applications has changed. The differential bearing retainer seal part number is 4567496 (new = green). 4412522 (old = blue). For servicing, the new seal P/N 4762418 (green) must be used so that the current special tool can be used without damage to the seal.

Some applications require this short aluminum extension housing. The part number for the new housing is 4567337, while the old part number is 4567412.

TRANSAXLE COVERS
The outside contour of the differential cover was revised for added vehicle clearance (July 1993 for 1994). A differential gear cover was revised for the 1995 model year in preparation for the rear mount, and also the wiring tab was moved to provide additional clearance for the new Minivans. The part numbers for the differential cover below reflect the 1995 model year. The transfer gear cover has been raised to accept the stirrup and strap retainer for the output bolt. The transfer gear cover outside contour and the gear pockets have been revised to accommodate new axle shafts and new ratio transfer gears on future models. The new covers service the old.
- Differential cover = 4659520 (new), 4659093 (old)
- Transfer Gear Cover = 4567566 (new), 4567255 (old)
