Fuel Pump: Description and Operation
OPERATIONThe fuel pump used in this system has a permanent magnet electric motor. The pump is part of the fuel pump module. Fuel is drawn in through a filter and pushed through the electric motor to the outlet. The pump contains a check valve. This valve is located near the pump outlet. It restricts fuel movement in either direction to maintain fuel supply line pressure when the pump is not operational.
Voltage to operate the pump is supplied through the Fuel Pump Relay.
WARNING: THE FUEL SYSTEM IS UNDER A CONSTANT PRESSURE (EVEN WITH THE ENGINE OFF). BEFORE SERVICING THE FUEL PUMP, FUEL LINES, FUEL FILTER OR FUEL INJECTOR(S), THE FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE MUST BE RELEASED.
