Procedure to Separate Quick Connects

1. Use a rag or soft brush to wipe the external surface of the quick connect and tube to remove loose dirt & road salt. Twist quick connect around the tube or flush the joint with a mild soap penetrant such as Mopar General Purpose Lube MP-5O (P/N 4549626), to remove crusted contaminants.

2. Use an air nozzle to blow out accumulated dirt and road salt from the retainer area of the quick connect.

Warning:
Be sure to wear safety goggles.





3. Holding the tube as shown, grasp quick connect body with fingers (or needle nose pliers) touching the retainer tabs (Figure 5).





4. Compress joint so that the tube is pushed into the quick connect until the tube bottoms (Figure 6).





5. Compress retainer tabs together until both tabs contact tube (Figure 7).





6. Separate the tube from the quick connect with the other hand while retainer tabs are compressed (Figure 8).

NOTE:
If plastic quick connect retainer is deformed and difficult to disengage, use a heat gun to soften the plastic to ease separation of the tube from the quick connect.
