Seat Belt: Service and Repair

WARNING: THE LEFT FRONT SEAT BELT RETRACTOR IS EQUIPPED WITH AN ELECTRONICALLY FIRED PYROTECHNIC BELT PRETENSIONER. WHEN SERVICING THE LEFT FRONT SEAT BELT RETRACTOR, DISCONNECT THE BATTERY NEGATIVE CABLE AND ISOLATE THE CABLE END FROM THE VEHICLE.

Warning Label:





WARNING: A YELLOW WARNING LABEL IS LOCATED ON THE INBOARD SIDE OF THE SHOULDER BELT UNDER THE UPPER ANCHOR BOLT COVER. IF THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN INVOLVED IN A COLLISION AND THE YELLOW LABEL IS EXPOSED, THE SEAT/SHOULDER BELT MUST BE REPLACED.

WARNING: AFTER A COLLISION IN WHICH THE DRIVER'S AIRBAG HAS BEEN DEPLOYED, THE LEFT FRONT RETRACTOR IS PERMANENTLY LOCKED AND MUST BE REPLACED.

REMOVAL-SHOULDER BELT/RETRACTOR
1. Disconnect battery negative cable and isolate the cable end.
2. If necessary, move the front seat all the way forward for improved access to the anchor bolts.

Upper Anchor Bolt Cover:





3. Remove the upper anchor bolt cover.
4. Remove the upper anchor bolt, turning loop and anti-rattle washer.

Retractor Cover:





5. Remove push-in fastener from seat belt retractor cover.
6. Separate cover from B-pillar.
7. Remove the seat belt retractor anchor bolt from the B-pillar.
8. Separate the seat belt retractor assembly from the vehicle.
9. Disconnect the wire harness connector for the seat belt retractor.
10. Remove the shoulder belt and retractor from the vehicle.

INSTALLATION-SHOULDER BELT RETRACTOR

1. Position the upper end of the turning loop at the roof panel.
2. Install the upper anchor bolt in the roof panel. Tighten the upper anchor bolt to 40 Nm (350 in. lbs.) torque.
3. Position the cover over the upper anchor bolt.
4. Position the retractor at the B-pillar.
5. Engage electrical wire connector.
6. Insert the retractor locating tab in the B-pillar and install the anchor bolt. Tighten the anchor bolt to 40 Nm (350 in. lbs.) torque.

CAUTION: Ensure the retractor wire harness does not interfere with the operation of the retractor or shoulder belt travel.

Retractor Cover:





7. Install the seat belt retractor cover.
8. Route shoulder belt through seat belt retractor cover.
9. Before connecting battery negative cable, refer to the Airbag for battery connection procedures.

RIGHT FRONT SEAT SHOULDER BELTS/BUCKLES REMOVAL

NOTE: Inspect the shoulder belt, retractor and buckle. Replace the belt or buckle that is either cut, frayed, torn or damaged. Replace the belt it the retractor is inoperative.

1. If necessary, move the front seat all the way forward for improved access to the anchor bolts.
2. Disengage the cover from the seat belt buckle anchor bolt.
3. Remove the buckle anchor bolt and anti-rattle washer from the seat riser.
4. Separate the buckle from the seat riser.
5. Remove the cover concealing the turning loop upper anchor bolt.
6. Remove the upper anchor bolt, turning loop and anti-rattle washer

Right Front Retractor Removal/Installation:





7. Remove the seat belt retractor anchor bolt from the seat riser.
8. Separate the seat belt retractor assembly from the vehicle.
9. Remove the shoulder belt, retractor and buckle from the vehicle.

INSTALLATION
1. Position the upper end of the turning loop at the roof panel.
2. Install the upper anchor bolt in the roof panel. Tighten the upper anchor bolt to 40 Nm (350 in. lbs.) torque.
3. Position the cover over the upper anchor bolt.
4. Position the retractor at the seat riser with the locating tab inserted in the seat riser. Install the bolt. Tighten the anchor bolt to 36 Nm (27 ft. lbs.) torque.
5. Position the buckle at the seat riser.
6. Install the anchor bolt in the seat riser. Tighten the anchor bolt to 40 Nm (350 in. lbs.) torque.
7. If applicable, adjust the seat position.

FIRST OR SECOND SEAT SHOULDER BELT/BUCKLE REMOVAL

NOTE: If the seat is being removed from the vehicle, the shoulder belts can be separated via the quick-disconnect coupler.

Left Shoulder Belt & Quick Disconnect Coupler:





1. Depress the quick-disconnect button on the cover and slide the assembly upward.

Shoulder Belt Lower Anchor Bolt:





2. Remove the lower belt anchor bolt from the seat frame.
3. Separate the cover, rear belt-end and anchor from the seat frame.
4. Raise the seat skirt and separate the front belt lower anchor plate from the seat frame.

Shoulder Belt Buckle & Lap Belts/Buckles:





5. Raise the seat skirt and remove the shoulder belt buckle anchor bolt from the seat frame.
6. Separate the shoulder belt buckle from the lap belt buckle and the seat frame.
7. Remove the shoulder belt and buckle from the vehicle.

INSTALLATION
1. Position the upper end of the quick-disconnect assembly on the shoulder bolt at the body upper side panel.
2. Slide the assembly downward and lock into place.
3. Position the front belt lower anchor plate, rear belt, anchor and cover at the seat frame.
4. Install the anchor bolt in the seat platform. Tighten the bolt to 40 Nm (350 in. lbs.) torque.
5. Position the shoulder belt buckle at the seat frame. Mate it with the lap belt buckle. Align the anchor bolt holes.
6. Install the anchor bolt in the seat frame. Tighten the bolt to 40 Nm (350 in. lbs.) torque.
