Fuel Pump: Service and Repair

1. Relieve fuel system pressure as described under "Precautions", then disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove fuel tank filler cap, then fuel filler tube to quarter panel attaching screws.
3. Raise and support vehicle, then remove draft tube cap on sending unit and siphon fuel from tank.
4. Disconnect all fuel lines and electrical connections to fuel tank.
5. Place suitable jack under fuel tank, then loosen retaining strap attaching bolts and lower tank from vehicle.
6. Loosen lock ring attaching fuel pump using brass drift and hammer by gently tapping lock ring sideways, then remove fuel pump and O-ring from tank.
7. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Do not overtighten O-ring.
b. Torque fuel strap nuts to 21 ft. lbs.
