Subject: Customer Satisfaction Notification # 721 -- Child Safety Seat Video and Harness Clips
Models:
1996 and 1997 Model Year Dodge Caravan, Plymouth Voyager and Chrysler Town & Country (NS) Minivans Equipped With Integrated Child Seats Built Through May 29, 1997 (MDH 0529XX)
Some owners have experienced difficulty with release of the seat belts and removal of their child from the seat on the above listed vehicles. If the child seat latch plate does not move freely and does not retract after the harness buckle is disconnected, the seat belt retractor mechanism will not release and allow the belt webbing to be pulled out. If this occurs, the owner may resort to other means such as disconnecting the emergency release clips, to remove the child. Therefore, a videotape that instructs owners on the proper use and maintenance of the child seats has been produced. Included with the videotape are two (2) harness clips. The purpose of the harness clip is to prevent a child from slipping their shoulders out of the shoulder belt straps.
Dealer Notification & Vehicle List
All dealers will receive a copy of this dealer recall notification letter by first class mail. Each dealer to whom involved unsold vehicles were invoiced (or the current dealer at the same street address) will receive a list of their involved vehicles. The Vehicle List is arranged in Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) sequence. The lists are for dealer reference in arranging for service of involved vehicles still in dealer inventory according to our records.
DIAL System Functions 53, 70 and VIP
All involved vehicles will be entered to DIAL System Functions 53, 70 and VIP at the time of notification mailing for dealer inquiry as needed.
Function 53 provides involved dealers with an updated VIN list of UNSOLD vehicles according to our records. Parts information is also provided. Complete vehicles are removed from Function 53 within several days of repair claim submission. To use this system, type "53" at the "Enter Function" prompt, then type "ORD721".
Parts
IMPORTANT:
No parts will be distributed to involved dealers. Dealers are requested to order enough Child Safety Seat Video packages, PN CFNA7210, to cover all involved UNSOLD vehicles remaining in the dealer inventory.
Each parts package contains a videotape, 2 seat belt harness clips and a clip instruction card.
NOTE:
1997 model year vehicles built on or after May 29, 1997 (MDH 0529XX) have already had the video and harness clips included with the other vehicle owner information.
Owner Notification and Service Scheduling
All involved vehicle owners known to Chrysler have been sent a copy of the child seat safety video, two harness clips and a harness clip instruction card by first class mail. A copy of the owner notification letter is included.
No service is required for this Customer Notification. If a customer still has difficulty with the child seat after viewing the video and/or cleaning the latch plate area, they are instructed to contact their dealer for assistance.
