NO: 23-59-98

GROUP: Body

DATE: Dec. 11, 1998

SUBJECT:
Front Door Glass
Adjustment/Windnoise

THIS REPAIR IS COMPATIBLE WITH DAIMLERCHRYSLER'S MOBILE SERVICE PROGRAM AND DOES NOT REQUIRE HOISTS OR OTHER FULL SERVICE FACILITY SPECIAL EQUIPMENT.

MODELS:

1996 - 1999 (NS) Town & Country/Caravan/Voyager
1996 - 1999 (GS) Chrysler Voyager (International Market)

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

Windnoise around front door(s) glass, especially at the top of the "B"-pillar.

DIAGNOSIS:

Position the top of window glass at about 1/2 in. above the bottom of the window opening. Place a grease pencil mark on the glass next to the "B"-pillar glass run. Roll the window to about 1/2 in. from the full up position. Measure the amount that the mark moved forward relative to the edge of the glass run. If it is more that 3.0 mm (1/8 in.) perform the Repair Procedure.

NOTE:
A STETHOSCOPE CAN BE USED TO DETERMINE THE AMOUNT OF AIR PASSING AROUND THE GLASS RUNS BY PLACING THE HEATER BLOWER ON HIGH WITH THE CONTROLS IN THE "FRESH" MODE AND ALL WINDOWS FULLY CLOSED, LISTEN AROUND THE OUTSIDE OF THE DOOR IN THE GLASS TO GLASS RUN AREA. THIS WILL PROVIDE A GOOD COMPARISON OF "AS RECEIVED" TO "READJUSTED" PERFORMANCE.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

This bulletin involves repositioning the front door glass(es).

1. Position the top of the glass approximately 1/2 in. from the top of the window opening.

2. Remove the door trim panel and water shield.

3. Loosen the front regulator channel attaching bolts (top and bottom).

4. Raise the front edge of the glass until the grease pencil mark lines up with the edge of the glass run seal.

5. While holding the glass in position, tighten the upper and lower regulator channel attaching bolts.

6. Verify proper adjustment by performing the Diagnosis procedure again. If the grease pencil mark moves 3.0 mm (1/8 in.) or less forward, the glass is adjusted properly.

7. Reassemble the water shield and the trim panel to the door.

8. Verify adjustment by repeating stethoscope test. It should be quieter than original condition.

9. Repeat steps 1 through 8 for the other front door glass if diagnosis indicates adjustment is necessary.
