Safety Recall # 714 -- Master Cylinder Primary Piston

^ Effective immediately, this recall (# 714) cancels and supersedes Recall # 707 -- Master Cylinder which was transmitted via an October 17, 1996 Electronic mail (DMAIL) message.

^ This service requirement applies only to 1997 model year Dodge Caravan 'LE' and 'ES'; and Chrysler Town & Country (NS) Minivans equipped with traction control (Sales Code -- BNM) built at the St. Louis Assembly Plant ("B" in the 11th VIN position) through September 16, 1996 (MDH 091609).

^ Involved vehicles that have already had a new master cylinder installed either per Recall # 707 or under warranty, according to our records, do not require any further service. Vehicles that were inspected per Recall # 707 and found to be outside the listed suspect master cylinder date code range, must now have the master cylinder primary piston replaced.

^ The brake master cylinder on the above listed vehicles, may allow brake fluid to leak past the rear piston guide into the power brake booster. To prevent a possible partial loss of braking, the master cylinder primary piston must be replaced.

Parts Packages:

^ Each involved dealer to whom vehicles in the recall were invoiced will receive enough Primary Piston Packages to service about 25% of those vehicles.
