B. Inspect Power Brake Booster
NOTE:DISREGARD PARTS PACKAGE INSTRUCTION SHEET reference to 2 inches of brake fluid in brake booster as an acceptable level and to replace booster if fluid level exceeds 2 inches. There must be no more than 114 inch of brake fluid in booster. If brake fluid level exceeds 1/4 inch. the fluid must be removed from the booster (it is not necessary to replace the booster).
1. Bend the provided beaded tie strap between the 16th and 17th bead from the rounded end as shown in Figure 11.
2. Use the tie strap as a dipstick to determine if any brake fluid has accumulated in the brake booster as follows:
A. Insert the dipstick, rounded end first, into the master cylinder mounting hole until it bottoms out and/or the dipstick bend is even with the bottom of the mounting hole (Figure 12).
B. Remove the dipstick from the brake booster and check the brake fluid level.
C. ^ If the fluid level is above the center of the slot in the rounded end (over 1/4") (Figure 13), the brake fluid must be removed from the booster. Continue with Step 3.
^ If the fluid level is at or below the center of the slot in the rounded end (under 1/4") (Figure 13), continue with Section C.
3. Remove the excess brake fluid in the brake booster using a hand-held suction gun (Snap-On PN YA-745 or equivalent) as follows:
A. Insert the suction hose into the brake booster master cylinder opening between the coils of the diaphragm return spring until the hose contacts the bottom center of the booster (Figure 14).
B. Suction the fluid out of the booster until the brake fluid level is 1/4" or below.
C. Discard the removed fluid. Do not pour it into the master cylinder reservoir.
D. Flush the suction gun thoroughly with water.
