NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN SUPERSEDES TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 08-43-96, DATED DEC. 13, 1996, WHICH SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM YOUR FILES. ALL REVISIONS ARE HIGHLIGHTED WITH **ASTERISKS** AND INCLUDE SUBJECT AND AN ADDITIONAL SYMPTOM/CONDITION.

NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES BUILT PRIOR TO NOV. 22, 1996 (MDH 1122XX).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
After an ignition start cycle the Compass Mini-Trip Computer (CMTC) **and/or instrument cluster** display may intermittently malfunction as follows:
1. The display shows incorrect temperatures.
2. The display will go into the "CAL" mode.
3. The display shows an incorrect heading.
4. The display is blank.
**5 All instrument cluster gauges and all Vacuum Florescent (VF) displays are out/blank.**
DIAGNOSIS:
If the vehicle demonstrates or the vehicle operator describes any of the five symptoms above, perform the following Repair Procedure.
PARTS REQUIRED:
1 O4897438AA Relay, Current Blocking, Electric Back Light
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This bulletin involves installing a revised Electric Back Light (EBL) relay.
1. Disengage the two slotted fasteners on the instrument panel silencer assembly/junction block cover and remove silencer/cover.
2. Remove the EBL relay (located in the lower left corner of the junction block and immediately above the fuse bank) and discard it.
3. Install the revised EBL relay p/n 04897438AA.
4. Install the instrument panel silencer assembly/junction block cover.
