Starter Motor: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
2. Raise and support the vehicle.
Starter Mounting Hardware Remove/Install:
3. Remove the starter lower mounting nut and lock washer.
4. Remove the starter upper mounting bolt.
Starter Remove/Install:
5. Move the starter towards the front of the vehicle until the starter gear housing nose clears the bellhousing. Then tilt the starter nose downwards past the exhaust pipe.
Starter Connector Remove/Install:
6. Remove the nuts from the solenoid terminal studs for the starter battery cable and solenoid wire harness connectors.
7. Remove the starter motor.
8. Reverse the removal procedures to install. Tighten the starter hardware as follows:
- Starter mounting bolt - 68 Nm (50 ft lb)
- Starter mounting nut - 68 Nm (50 ft lb)
- Battery cable terminal nut - 13.5 Nm (120 in lb)
- Solenoid wire harness terminal nut - 6.2 Nm (55 in lb).
