Universal Joint Noise

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
A clicking noise may be present when changing from a forward gear to reverse. This noise may be due to poor fitting universal joint retaining straps. The straps may be located on either the front or rear prop shaft depending on model and build configuration.
DIAGNOSIS:
If the condition is present, check the vehicle build date. If the vehicle was built between 3/23/98 and 4/06/98 (MDH 0323XX and 0406XX), perform the Repair Procedure.
PARTS REQUIRED:
2 J3240553 Strap
4 J4006928 Screw
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This bulletin involves replacing the universal joint strap and attaching screws.
1. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.
2. Remove the universal joint straps. Discard the straps and retaining screws.
3. Install the new straps and attaching screws, P/N J3240553 & J4006928. Tighten the screws to 19 Nm (14 ft. lbs.).
4. Lower the vehicle.
