Water Leaking Into Vehicle Through Side Cowl Panel
NOTE:
THIS REPAIR IS COMPATIBLE WITH CHRYSLER'S MOBILE SERVICE PROGRAM AND DOES NOT REQUIRE HOISTS OR OTHER FULL SERVICE FACILITY SPECIAL EQUIPMENT.

NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO APPROXIMATELY 14,000 VEHICLES BUILT BETWEEN NOVEMBER 16, 1997 (MDH 1116XX) AND NOVEMBER 26, 1997 (MDH 1126XX).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Water leaks through either the right and/or left side cowl panels and dampens the carpet in the foot well area.
DIAGNOSIS:
1. Open the right door and remove the right front door sill trim cover.
2. Grasp the center upper edge of the cowl trim cover (Figure 1) and pull outward allowing the cowl trim cover to bow in the center and releasing the trim cover retaining tab (Figure 2).
3. Separate the cowl trim cover from the lower cowl.
4. Inspect the cowl panel in the area shown in Figure 2 for an open 6.6 mm (0.26 in.) hole.
5. Repeat the same procedure for the left side cowl panel.
6. If there is an open hole in the side cowl panel on either side, perform the following Repair Procedure.
PARTS REQUIRED:
1 55275444AA Patch, Butyl
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This bulletin involves installing a butyl patch over the hole in the cowl panel.
1. Clean the area around the hole as shown in Figure 2 on both right and left side cowl panels with a mild detergent and dry the area thoroughly.
2. Remove the protective backing from the butyl patch and install the patch over the holes on both the right and left sides.
3. Position the right cowl trim cover onto the lower cowl and press the cover into place.
4. Install the right front door sill trim cover onto the sill.
5. Position the left cowl trim cover onto the lower cowl and press the cover into place.
6. Install the left front door sill trim cover onto the sill.
