A. Inspect Fuel Tube
1. Raise the vehicle on an appropriate hoist.2. Remove the white plastic heat shield that covers the chassis fuel tube (Figure 1).
NOTE:
For 8.0L V-1O equipped vehicles, roll the shield up and above the exhaust pipe and then slide the shield forward to remove.
3. Disconnect the three (3) fuel tube support clips.
4. Remove the front and center attaching nuts for the metal heat shield (Figure 2).
5. Inspect the fuel tube for damage from contact with the center heat shield bolt (Figure 2).
6. ^ If the fuel tube is damaged from contact with the heat shield bolt, the fuel tube must be replaced. Continue with Section B -- Replace Chassis Fuel Tube.
NOTE:
The fuel tube is considered damaged if the bolt contact caused an indentation in the tube. Fuel tubes that only have scratches or scrapes on the fuel tube surface do NOT require replacement.
^ If the fuel tube is not damaged, Continue with Section C -- Remove Center Heat Shield Bolt.
