High Pressure Fuel Line - Service Precautions

NO: 14-01-98

GROUP: Vehicle Performance

DATE: Mar. 6, 1998

SUBJECT:
High Pressure Fuel Line Service

MODELS:
1998 (BR/BE) Ram Truck

NOTE:
THIS INFORMATION APPLIES TO THE 5.9L CUMMINS ELECTRONICALLY INJECTED 24 VALVE ENCORE DIESEL.

DISCUSSION:

It has been found that the interference fit between the high pressure fuel line and injector connector tube will only seal properly the first time it is torqued to specification (Figure 1). Whenever any of these high pressure fittings are disconnected, the connector p/n 5011422AA and "O" ring p/n 05011885AA will require replacement to prevent a high pressure fuel leak.

The torque for these connections is 40 N.m (30 ft. lbs.). Using a higher torque than specified will cause damage to the injector or connector tube. If the injector or connector tube is damage/deformed, a high pressure fuel leak will result inside the cylinder head. This leak will cause an engine miss and low power.
