Removal and Installation

Pistons And Connecting Rods:

1. Remove the following components
^ Intake manifold/plenum
^ Cylinder head covers
^ Timing belt
^ Cylinder heads
^ Oil pan

Mark Pistons:

2. Identify and mark pistons. The pistons are not interchangeable from bank to bank.
3. Pistons with the letter R and arrow toward the front of engine are to be installed in cylinders 1-3-5. Pistons with the letter L and arrow toward the front of engine are to be installed in cylinders 2-4-6.

Mark Matching Parts:

4. Mark connecting rod and cap with cylinder number.

Remove Piston Rings:

4. Remove piston rings.
