Air Conditioning System - Leak Detection Dye Addition

NUMBER: 24-04-99

GROUP: Heating & A/C

DATE: Feb. 12, 1999

SUBJECT:
Leak Detection Dye Added To The Air Conditioning System

MODELS:
1999 (DN) Durango

NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES BUILT WITH AIR CONDITIONING ON OR AFTER DECEMBER 1, 1998 (MDH 1201XX).

DISCUSSION:
All Dodge Durangos built since December 1, 1999 have leak detection dye added to the air conditioning system. The leak detection dye provides means to test for air conditioning leaks through the use of an ultra violet lamp and when added to the air conditioning system at the assembly plant, does not require the vehicle to be recharged prior to leak testing.

NOTE:
IF A LEAK ON SUBJECT MODEL VEHICLES HAS BEEN DETECTED, ALL RESIDUE OF THE LEAK DETECTION DYE MUST BE REMOVED ONCE LEAK REPAIRS HAVE BEEN COMPLETED TO PREVENT MISDIAGNOSIS OF THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM IN THE FUTURE. FLUORESCENT DYE CLEANER P/N BG-795, SHOULD BE USED TO CLEAN AIR CONDITIONING LINES AND COMPONENTS. BG-795 IS AVAILABLE THROUGH PENTASTAR SERVICE EQUIPMENT.
