For replacement of the lower control arm isolator bushings, the lower control arm must be removed from the vehicle.

DISASSEMBLE
1. Remove the lower control arm from the vehicle.

CAUTION: The jaws of the vise must be covered with protective caps to protect the surface of the control arm from damage.

Control Arm Mounted In Vise:





2. Clamp the upper control arm securely in a vise.





3. Assemble Remover, Special Tool 6969-2, bolt, nut and thrust washer as shown.

Tools Installed For Bushing Removal:





4. Install the assembled pieces of Remover, Special Tool 6969-2 on the lower control arm. Then install Remover, Special Tool 6969-1, and Nut, Special Tool 6969-4, on the bolt of Remover, Special Tool 6969-2.
5. Isolator bushing is removed from control arm using the following procedure. Hold the bolt of Remover, Special Tool 6969-2 from turning while rotating the nut. This will pull the isolator bushing out of the control arm.

Tools Installed For Second Bushing Removal:





6. Transfer Remover, Special Tool 6969-2, Remover, Special Tool 6969-1, and Nut, Special Tool 6969-4, to the remaining isolator bushing in lower control arm.
7. Remove the second isolator bushing from control arm using the following procedure. Hold the bolt of Remover, Special Tool 6969-2, from turning while rotating the nut. This will pull the isolator bushing out of the lower control arm.

ASSEMBLE
1. Install the isolator bushing into the control arm by hand, making sure the bushing is installed squarely into the bushing hole.

2. Install isolator bushing in lower control arm using an arbor press. Support the control arm using Receiver, Special Tool L 4422-1. Press the isolator bushing into the lower control arm using Driver, Special Tool 6758.

Isolator Bushing Correctly Installed:





3. Press the isolator bushing into the control arm until the flange of the bushing is squarely seated against the control arm. No gap is allowed between the flange of the isolator bushing and the control arm.
4. Install the second isolator bushing into the control arm.
5. Position the control arm in the arbor press. Support the control arm using Receiver, Special Tool L 4422-1. Press the isolator bushing into the lower control arm using Driver, Special Tool 6758.
6. Press the isolator bushing into the control arm until the flange of the bushing is squarely seated against the control arm. No gap is allowed between the flange of the isolator bushing and the control arm.
7. Install the upper control arm on the vehicle.
