Front Cross-Member: Service and Repair

FRONT CROSSMEMBER

REMOVAL

1. Remove the front springs.
2. Remove sway bar.
3. Disconnect outer tie rod ends.
4. Remove brake rotors.
5. Loosen brake rotor dust shield/backing plates and anti-lock sensor (if equipped).

6. Install engine support fixture, Tool C-3487-A with frame hooks or a suitable substitute to support engine (Fig. 5).
7. Remove lower engine-mount nuts.

8. Remove crossmember mounting bolts (Fig. 6).
9. Separate crossmember from vehicle.

INSTALLATION

1. Position crossmember on vehicle.
2. Install crossmember mounting bolts. Tighten the crossmember bolts to 115 N.m (85 ft.lbs.) torque.
3. Install lower engine-mount nuts and tighten to 102 N.m (75 ft.lbs.).
4. Remove engine support fixture.
5. Tighten brake rotor dust shield/backing plates and anti- lock sensor (if equipped).
6. Install brake rotors.
7. Connect outer tie rod ends.
8. Install stabilizer bar.
9. Install the front springs.
10. Align the front end.
