Electronic Brake Distribution

DESCRIPTION
2500 and 3500 vehicles have Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) designed into the ABS system which eliminates the combination/proportioning valve. The system uses the ABS system to perform the function of the rear brake pressure proportioning. The vehicle and control parameters are continuously monitored by the ABS system to dynamically control the rear brakes pressure.
Under most conditions EBD will be transparent to the driver. Sometimes a slight audible pedal pulsation may occur, which is considered normal.

OPERATION
The EBD is activated when low levels of rear wheel slip are encountered during braking. When this happens, rear brake pressure is controlled in order to balance the brake force without activating the ABS system.
EBD will not activate if:
- Brake switch is not closed (brake pedal depressed)
- Red brake warning lamp illuminated
- Vehicle is in 4WD mode
- An ABS system fault critical to EBD is present
- More than two ABS system faults are present
