Upper Control Arm

UPPER CONTROL ARM

REMOVAL
1. Raise and support the vehicle.
2. Remove wheel and tire assembly.
3. Remove the caliper mounting bolts.
4. Remove brake hose bracket from the arm.
5. Position a hydraulic jack under the arm and raise the jack to unload the rebound bumper.
6. Remove cotter pin and nut from upper ball joint.





7. Separate upper ball joint from steering knuckle with Remover MB-991113.

CAUTION: When installing Remover MB-991113 to separate the ball joint, be careful not to damage the ball joint seal.





8. Remove the control arm pivot bar mounting nuts and remove the control arm.

INSTALLATION





NOTE: Before installation, insure pivot bar adjustment bolts are in their original location.

1. Position the control arm pivot bar on adjustment bolts. Install nuts and tighten to 210 Nm (155 ft. lbs.).
2. Position steering knuckle on upper ball joint. Tighten the upper ball joint nut to 81 Nm (60 ft. lbs.) and install a new cotter pin.
3. Install the brake hose bracket to the arm.
4. Install the caliper mounting bolts. Tighten the bolts to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.).
5. Install the wheel and tire assembly.
6. Remove support and lower vehicle.
7. Align front end to specifications.
