Lower Control Arm

LOWER CONTROL ARM

REMOVAL
1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Disconnect the outer tie rod end from the steering knuckle.
3. Remove disc brake caliper and the rotor from steering knuckle.
4. Disconnect the tension strut from the lower suspension arm.
5. Remove the shock absorber.
6. Remove the cotter pin and lower ball joint nut at the steering knuckle.

Loosening Lower Ball Stud:





7. Install Ball Joint Remover C-3564-A on the lower ball joint. Turn the threaded portion of the tool and lock securely against the lower joint.
8. Expand the tool enough to place force on the lower ball joint. Strike the steering knuckle sharply with a hammer to loosen the joint. Do not attempt to force the joint out of the steering knuckle with the loosening tool.
9. Remove the spring.
10. Pivot the lower suspension arm downward.
11. Remove coil spring and isolator pad from the vehicle.
12. Remove the lower suspension arm pivot bolt from the crossmember.
13. Remove the lower suspension arm from the vehicle.

INSTALLATION
1. Loosely attach suspension arm to lower crossmember.
2. Install spring.
3. Position the steering knuckle on the lower ball joint.
4. Install the retaining nut on the lower ball joint and tighten to:
- LD 11/16 bolt: 183 Nm (135 ft. lbs.).
- HD 3/4 bolt: 237 Nm (175 ft. lbs.).
5. Install new cotter pins.
6. Install the tension strut.
7. Remove the spring compressor tool.
8. Install the shock absorber.
9. Install disc brake caliper.
10. Install wheel and tire assembly and lower the vehicle.
11. Lower the vehicle and tighten lower suspension arm pivot bolt to 237 Nm (175 ft. lbs.).
12. Check the wheel alignment.
