Front Door Speakers - Buzzing/Distortion

NUMBER: 08-006-02

GROUP: Electrical

DATE: March 18, 2002

SUBJECT:
Front Door Speaker Sound Quality

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves removing the protective screen from the front door speakers.

MODELS:
2002 DR Ram Truck

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

Vehicles equipped with the Infinity speaker system may exhibit poor sound quality at the front door speakers at higher volumes. This may include speaker buzzing or distortion which may be caused by the speaker cone coming in contact with the protective screen on the speaker.

DIAGNOSIS:

If the condition is present, perform the Repair Procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

1. Remove the front door trim panel.

2. Using a sharp razor knife, carefully remove the protective screen from the speaker by cutting the screen at the outer edge as close to the foam seal as possible (Fig. 1). Use care not to damage the speaker cone. A razor knife with an adjustable blade works best. You can set the blade depth just deep enough to cut the screen and have enough clearance from the speaker cone. The speaker cone is approximately 1/4 inch below the screen. Make sure not to leave any frayed screen material on the speaker frame which could induce other noise into the system.

3. Install the door trim panel.

POLICY:
Reimbursable within the provisions of the warranty.
