A/C - Fluttering Sound From Heater/A/C Unit

Heater A/C Door Flutter

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves installing new defrost and panel door actuator adapters.

MODELS:

2004 (HB) Durango

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

A fluttering sound or vibration may be heard coming from the heater A/C unit when the mode is changed to defrost, floor/defrost or floor modes. The flutter can also be experienced in intermittently in the panel mode.

DIAGNOSIS:

If the symptom is present, perform the Repair Procedure.





PARTS REQUIRED:

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

1. Make sure that the heater A/C system, is in the panel mode.

2. Locate defrost and panel actuator on the end of heater A/C housing under left side of instrument panel.





3. Make sure adapter tab is at the nine o'clock position (Fig. 1). Remove adapter from the panel door. You may need a screw driver to help pry it out of the door.





4. Obtain the new adapter from the repair kit, p/n 05143241AA, making sure the rubber spacer is present inside the the adapter (Fig. 2).

5. Install the new adapter, making sure the adapter tab is pointing at nine o'clock (Fig. 1). This will ensure that the adapter is aligned correctly with the door shaft.

6. Install the panel door actuator.





7. Remove the defrost/floor door actuator and move the adapter tab to the four o'clock position (Fig. 3), (or all the way down).

8. Remove adapter from defrost door. You may need a screw driver to help pry it out of the door.

9. Install the new adapter, making sure the adapter tab is pointing at four o'clock. This will ensure that the adapter is aligned correctly with the door shaft (Fig. 3).

10. Install the defrost door actuator.

11. Using the StarCSAN, enter - ECU View - HVAC - More Options - System Test - and run the Actuator Calibration Test.

12. Verify correct operation of the system
