Engine Controls - Poor A/C Performance

THIS BULLETIN SUPERSEDES SERVICE BULLETIN 24-016-05, DATED SEPTEMBER 21, 2005, WHICH SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM YOUR FILES. ALL REVISIONS ARE HIGHLIGHTED WITH **ASTERISKS** AND INCLUDE A SECOND LABOR OPERATION NUMBER.
SUBJECT:
4.7L Improved A/C Performance
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves installing a revised condenser fan shroud assembly and expansion valve.
MODELS:
2004 - 2005 (HB) Durango
NOTE:
This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with a 4.7L engine (sales code EVA), built before on or before May 9, 2005 (MDH 0509XX). Vehicles built on or after December 7, 2004 (MDH 1207XX) are equipped with the new expansion valve and require only the Cooling Fan & Shroud.
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Poor A/C performance during high ambient city traffic or extended idle conditions; A/C operation improves again with continuous driving or with reduced ambient conditions.
DIAGNOSIS:
Using a Scan Tool (StarSCAN) with TechCONNECT or the appropriate Diagnostic Procedures Manual, verify all engine systems are functioning as designed. If DTC's are present record them on the repair order and repair as necessary before proceeding further with this bulletin.
If the vehicle operator describes or experiences the Symptom/Condition, perform the appropriate Repair Procedure.
PARTS REQUIRED
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery terminal.
2. Using the procedures outlined in the appropriate service manual with approved recovery equipment, recover the A/C refrigerant.
3. Was the vehicle built on or before December 6, 2004 (MDH1206XX)?
a. Yes � go to Step # 4.
b. No � go to Step # 6.
4. Remove the expansion valve.
5. Install a new expansion valve, p/n 05061342AD with new 0-rings, p/n 4882136/7.
6. Disconnect the refrigerant hoses from the condenser.
7. Disconnect the wire harness.
8. Remove the condenser from the radiator support.
9. Remove the fan and shroud assembly from the condenser.
10. Install the new cooling fan and shroud, p/n 52029175AD, on the condenser.
11. Install the condenser.
12. Connect the wire harness.
13. Connect the refrigerant hoses.
14. Charge the system with the appropriate refrigerant charge as stated on the A/C system label.
15. Connect the negative battery cable.
