Seal-Rear Output Shaft

SEAL-REAR OUTPUT SHAFT
REMOVAL





1. Remove the rear propeller shaft.
2. Using Holder 6958 (1), remove the rear output shaft flange (2) nut.





3. Using a suitable 2 or 3 jaw puller (1), remove the rear output shaft flange (2).





4. Using a suitable pry tool (1), remove the output shaft seal (2) from the transfer case (2).

INSTALLATION





1. Install a new rear output shaft seal into the transfer case (2) using Seal Installer C-3860A (1).
2. Coat the seal lip with automatic transmission fluid.





3. Install the rear output shaft flange onto the rear output shaft.
4. Install a new nut onto the output shaft.
5. Using Holder 6958 (1), tighten the rear output shaft flange (2) nut to 250 Nm (185 ft. lbs.).
6. Install the rear propeller shaft.
7. Check and correct the transfer case oil level.
