REMOVAL
NOTE: If transaxle assembly is being replaced or overhauled (clutch and/or seal replacement), it is necessary to perform the "Quick-Learn" Procedure.
1. Disconnect battery cables.
2. Remove battery shield (Figure 1).

3. Remove coolant recovery bottle (Figure 2).
Figure 2 Coolant Recovery Bottle
4. Remove fluid level indicator/tube assembly. Plug opening to prevent debris from entering transaxle.
5. Disconnect transaxle oil cooler lines using Release Tool 8875A. Install plugs to prevent debris intrusion.
6. Disconnect input and output shaft speed sensor connectors (Figure 3).
7. Disconnect transmission range sensor (TRS) connector (Figure 3).
8. Disconnect solenoid/pressure switch assembly connector (Figure 3).
9. Disconnect the VLP connector, if equipped.

11. Disconnect crankshaft position sensor (if equipped). Remove sensor from bellhousing.
12. Reposition leak detection pump harness and hoses.
13. Remove rear mount bracket-to-transaxle case bolts (Figure 5).

14. Remove transaxle upper bellhousing-to-block bolts.
15. Raise vehicle on hoist.
16. Remove transaxle oil pan and drain fluid into suitable container.
17. Remove front wheel/tire assemblies.
18. Remove left and right halfshaft assemblies.
19. AWD models: Remove power transfer unit.
20. Remove rear mount bracket-to-transaxle case lower (horizontal) bolt (Figure 5).
21. Remove front mount/bracket assembly.
22. Remove starter motor.
23. Remove lateral bending brace.
24. Remove inspection cover.
25. Remove torque converter-to-drive plate bolts.
26. Support engine/transaxle assembly at engine oil pan with screw jack and wood block.
27. Partially remove left wheelhouse splash shield to gain access to and remove upper mount thru-bolt (Figure 6).

28. Lower engine/transaxle assembly with screw jack.
29. Obtain helper and/or transmission jack. Secure transmission jack to transaxle assembly.
30. Remove upper mount bracket from transaxle (Figure 6).
31. Remove remaining transaxle bellhousing-to-engine bolts.
32. Remove transaxle assembly from vehicle.
