FRONT

An electrically operated intermittent front wiper and washer system is standard factory-installed safety equipment on this vehicle. The wiper and washer system includes the following major components, which are described in further detail elsewhere in this service information:

- Body Control Module - The Body Control Module (BCM) (also known as the Signal Acquisition and Actuation Module/SAM) is located beneath the driver side end of the instrument panel in the passenger compartment, where it is secured to the fuse and relay block (also known as the SRB).
- Front Check Valve - The front washer system check valve is integral to the plumbing fitting located in the washer plumbing between the front washer pump hose and the two washer nozzle hoses. The check valve is located beneath the cowl top panel at the base of the windshield within the left rear corner of the engine compartment.
- Front Washer Nozzle - A single washer nozzle with three separate orifices is secured with integral snap features to each front wiper arm.
- Front Washer Plumbing - The plumbing for the washer system consists of rubber hoses and molded plastic fittings. The plumbing is routed through the engine compartment from the washer reservoir. The front washer hose is routed along the left side of the engine compartment to the front check valve near the dash panel. Two hoses from the check valve are routed across the underside of the cowl top panel to unique molded plastic elbow fittings located near each wiper pivot at the base of the windshield. The hoses for the washer nozzles are routed from the elbow fittings through the tension spring concealed on the underside of each wiper arm and are secured by molded plastic clips routing them to the washer nozzles.
- Front Washer Pump/Motor - The electric front washer pump/motor unit is located in a dedicated hole on the inboard-facing side near the front of the washer reservoir in the left front corner of the engine compartment.
- Front Wiper Arm - The two unequal length front wiper arms are secured to the two wiper pivots, which extend through the cowl top panel near the base of the windshield. The longer arm is installed on the right (passenger) side of the windshield.
- Front Wiper Blade - The two unequal length front wiper blades are secured to the two wiper arms, and are parked on the glass near the bottom of the windshield when the wiper system is not in operation. The longer blade is installed on the left (driver) side of the windshield.
- Front Wiper Module - The wiper pivots are the only visible components of the front wiper module. The remainder of the module is concealed within the engine compartment just beneath the cowl top panel. The wiper module includes the two wiper drive links, the wiper motor crank arm, the two wiper pivots, and the module mounting bracket.
- Front Wiper Motor - The front wiper motor is secured to the front wiper module bracket on the underside of the cowl top panel within the engine compartment. The wiper motor output shaft and crank arm extend through a clearance hole in the mounting bracket, where they are connected to a crank arm that drives the wiper linkage.
- Front Wiper High/Low Relay - The front wiper high-low relay is an International Standards Organization (ISO) relay located in the fuse and relay block (also known as the SRB) located beneath the driver side end of the instrument panel in the passenger compartment.
- Front Wiper On/Off Relay - The front wiper on-off relay is an International Standards Organization (ISO) relay located in the fuse and relay block (also known as the SRB) located beneath the driver side end of the instrument panel in the passenger compartment.
- Multi-Function Switch - The multi-function switch is secured to and directly connected to the back of the clockspring/Steering Control Module (SCM) (also known as the steering column module/MRM) near the top of the steering column below the steering wheel and is completely concealed beneath the steering column shrouds. Only the switch control stalk and control knob extending from the left side of the steering column are visible, while the remainder of the switch is concealed beneath the steering column shrouds. The multi-function switch contains all of the switches for the front wiper and washer systems, as well as for the rear wiper and washer systems of vehicles that are so equipped.
- Rain Sensor Module - A Rain Sensor Module (RSM) (also known as the Rain/Light Sensor Module/RLSM) is used on vehicles equipped with the optional automatic wiper and automatic lights features. The RSM is secured to the inside surface of the windshield glass, just below the base of the inside rear view mirror, where it is concealed beneath a molded plastic trim cover.
- Roof Control Module - The Roof Control Module (RCM) (also known as the Overhead Control Panel/OCP control unit or DBE) is included in the wiper system on vehicles that are also equipped with the optional automatic wiper feature. The RCM is secured above the OCP located in the center of the headliner within the passenger compartment, just behind the windshield header.
- Steering Control Module - The clockspring/Steering Control Module (SCM) (also known as the steering column module/MRM) is secured near the top of the steering column below the steering wheel and is completely concealed beneath the steering column shrouds.
- Washer Fluid Level Switch - The washer fluid level switch is located in a dedicated hole on the forward-facing side of a sump area on the lower outboard side of the washer reservoir in the left front corner of the engine compartment.
- Washer Reservoir - The washer reservoir is secured by screws to the left front inner fender shield and is located directly over the left frame rail in the left front corner of the engine compartment. A single reservoir is used with the unused mounting holes for the optional rear washer system washer pump/motor unit and the optional headlamp washer system washer pump/motor unit filled by black rubber plugs. The washer reservoir filler neck has a molded blue plastic cap and is accessed from the left front corner of the engine compartment.

Hard wired circuitry connects the front wiper and washer system components to the electrical system of the vehicle. These hard wired circuits are integral to several wire harnesses, which are routed throughout the vehicle and retained by many different methods. These circuits may be connected to each other, to the vehicle electrical system and to the front wiper and washer system components through the use of a combination of soldered splices, splice block connectors, and many different types of wire harness terminal connectors and insulators. Refer to the appropriate wiring information. The wiring information includes wiring diagrams, proper wire and connector repair procedures, further details on wire harness routing and retention, as well as pin-out and location views for the various wire harness connectors, splices and grounds.
