Engine - Removal







REMOVAL

NOTE: When removing engine, care should be taken not damage the finish on the intake manifold, coil covers, and head covers.





CAUTION: If engine needs to be rebuilt, the oil cooler lines must be flushed out and the oil cooler must be replaced or engine damage could result.

1. Perform fuel pressure release procedure Service and Repair.
2. Open trunk lid. Remove battery cover. Disconnect negative cable (1) from battery (2).
3. Remove hood.




4. Remove air cleaner housing (1)Air Cleaner Housing - Removal.
5. Drain cooling systemService and Repair.
6. Discharge air conditioning system using a suitable refrigerant recovery machine [1][2]Capacity Specifications.




7. Remove front strut tower brace retaining bolts (2) and remove brace (1).
8. Remove upper radiator hose from the engine.




9. Remove accessory drive belt (2)Accessory Drive Belt - Removal.
10. Remove power steering pump (4) and reservoir and reposition. Do not disconnect lines.
11. Disconnect and remove generator (1).
12. Disconnect heater hoses from engine.




13. Disconnect coolant reservoir inlet hose (5) from coolant reservoir (1).
14. Disconnect PCM engine electrical connectors. Disconnect ground wire from stud at left side frame rail.
15. Remove windshield wiper arms Wiper Arms - Removal.
16. Remove cowl cover Removal.




17. Disconnect brake booster vacuum hose (2), and fuel line (1).
18. Disconnect A/C lines from A/C compressor. Plug holes in A/C compressor to prevent debris from entering A/C compressor.
19. Disconnect A/C clutch electrical connector.




20. Remove left and right side sill panels .
21. Raise vehicle on hoist.




22. Remove under body stone shields.
23. Disconnect exhaust system at left and right exhaust manifolds. Do not reuse V-band clamps.
24. Remove left and right catalytic converter support hanger bracket bolts (1). Position catalytic converters away from manifolds.




25. Disconnect starter electrical connections (2,3,6).
26. Remove lower radiator hose.




27. Remove bolts (2) securing A/C line to oil pan.




28. Using Special Tool 9005, disconnect oil cooler lines (2,3) from engineProcedures.
29. Remove transmissionManual Transmission/Transaxle - Removal.
30. Disconnect ground strap from right side engine mount.




31. Remove left and right engine mount to frame nuts (1).
32. Lower vehicle.




33. Install Engine Lifting Bracket 10034 (1) to right rear cylinder head boss.




34. Install Engine Lifting Bracket 10034 (1) to left front cylinder head boss.
35. Attach an appropriate chain to engine lifting brackets. Remove engine with an engine hoist.
