Engine - Removal






REMOVAL





1. Remove hood.
2. Release fuel pressure Service and Repair.
3. Disconnect negative battery cable.





4. Disconnect intake air temperature sensor electrical connector.
5. Remove air cleaner housing assembly (3) Air Cleaner Body - Removal.





6. Remove accessory drive belt (5).
7. Disconnect lines from power steering pump (3).
8. Remove power steering pump attaching bolts and set pump aside (3).
9. Recover A/C system Refrigerant System Recovery.
10. Remove A/C compressor (4) A/C Compressor - Removal.





11. Raise vehicle.
12. Remove lower splash shield bolts (1) and remove splash shield (2).
13. Drain cooling system.





14. Drain the engine oil (5) and remove the oil filter (3).
15. Disconnect down stream oxygen sensor connectors.
16. Disconnect exhaust pipes at the manifolds.





17. Disconnect starter (2) electrical connectors.
18. Remove starter (2) bolts and set starter aside.





19. Disconnect coolant pipe (1) near starter from hose.
20. Disconnect crankshaft position sensor electrical connector and remove sensor Crankshaft Position Sensor - Removal.
21. Disconnect ground strap.





22. Disconnect oil pressure sensor (1) electrical connector.





23. Remove 4 engine mount nuts (1).
24. Remove engine mount studs (1) from mount.





25. Remove steering gear mounting bolts (1) and lower steering gear (2) for clearance.





26. Using a block of wood and a suitable lifting device under the oil pan, raise the engine.
27. Remove structural collar bolts (2 and 4).
28. Remove structural collar (3).
29. Remove lower bell housing bolts.
30. Lower engine and remove jack stand.
31. Mark flex plate to torque converter location.
32. Remove torque converter bolts.
33. Lower vehicle.





34. Remove wiper arms and wiper cowl (1) Wiper Arm Linkage - Removal.
35. Remove strut tower support (2).





36. Reposition purge solenoid (5).





37. Remove the intake manifold (2) Intake Manifold - Removal.
38. Disconnect all vacuum lines and electrical connectors.
39. Disconnect all ground straps attaching to the engine.





40. Disconnect fuel line at fuel rail (1).
41. Disconnect coil, injector (2), capacitor, and knock sensor connectors.
42. Remove EGR valve and tube assembly Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve - Removal.
43. Remove upper bellhousing bolts and reposition electrical harness.





44. Attach Engine Lifting Bracket 8342A (1) to the left (2) and right (3) cylinder head.
45. Support transmission with a block of wood and floor jack.
46. Hoist engine from engine compartment.
