C1009-BRAKE FLUID LEVEL LOW

- When Monitored:
With the ignition on.
- Set Condition:
When the Anti-Lock Brake Module indicates that the brake fluid volume consumed exceeds expected amount.
1. CHECK FOR A DTC C1009-BRAKE FLUID LEVEL LOW
WARNING: On vehicles equipped with the high voltage system, you must thoroughly read and follow all High Voltage Safety procedures. In addition, before performing any diagnostic or service procedure near a high voltage component, you must perform the High Voltage Power Down. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury Service Precautions
NOTE: This DTC must be active for the results of this test to be valid.
1. Turn the ignition on.
2. With the scan tool, read and record DTCs.
3. With the scan tool, read and record Environmental Data to help identify the conditions in which the DTC was set.
4. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
5. Start the engine.
6. Slowly depress and release the brake pedal.
7. With the scan tool, read and record DTCs.
Does the scan tool display: C1009-BRAKE FLUID LEVEL LOW?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the ABS-INTERMITTENT CONDITION TEST ABS Intermittent Condition Test.
2. CHECK FOR HYDRAULIC LEAKS IN BRAKE SYSTEM
1. Turn ignition off.
2. Check the entire brake system for hydraulic brake fluid leaks.
Was there any hydraulics leaks in the brake system?
Yes
- Repair as necessary.
- Perform ABS VERIFICATION TEST ABS Verification Test.
No
- Go To 3
3. CHECK FOR AIR IN BRAKE SYSTEM
1. Bleed the entire brake system.
Was there any air in the brake system?
Yes
- Repair complete.
- Perform ABS VERIFICATION TEST ABS Verification Test.
No
- Go To 4
4. HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT (HCU)/ABM ISOLATION
1. Separate the HCU from the ABM.
2. Turn ignition on.
3. With the scan tool, monitor brake pressure.
Does the scan tool display brake pressure above 218 bar (3162 psi)?
Yes
- Replace the ICU.
- Perform ABS VERIFICATION TEST ABS Verification Test.
No
- Replace the ABM.
- Perform ABS VERIFICATION TEST ABS Verification Test.
